Pen y Gaer Iron Age hillfort, North Wales: view NNW over chevaux-de-frise defences (small upright stones) & linear earthwork outside the entrances through two stone ramparts on the W. Up to three ramparts (stone, and banks & ditches) enclose an area of two hectares. There are hut platforms within the fort and patches of chevaux-de-frise defences outside the S ramparts and the original W entrance. Rear L: pylons march through the pass of Bwlch y Ddeufaen also used by a prehistoric route & the Roman road from Segontium (Caernarfon) to Canovium (Caerhun) in the Conwy Valley. Rear centre R: the ridge of Tal y Fan.
