Mount Kilimanjaro from Moschi, Tanzania
The most impressive view on Kilimanjaro is from the jungle, on the low steps of the mountain. One should not content himself with a stay and a look from the city of Moshi but should take time closer to the mountain in rural areas. From the city I realized than the little mount with snow is just 1500m high. Most of altitude is a very large 50 km hill, not a real peak so Kili was less impressive that what I would imagine. Circumstances: On a trip from Djibouti to Namibia, I got along the rift and after a stay in a Maasai village in Kenya, I got to Tanzania. First I did a fast Safari and stopped just down Kilimanjaro, the tallest mountain in Africa (5895m). I did not intend to climb it since my knees are week, so I spent a night in a Chagga village on the low parts of the mountain. From there I could appreciate the local rural life among Chagga People. A funny thing happened in the local family house I was sleeping in. At night they bought a chicken and I remembered an austrian tourist who told me that in India he had opportunity to kill the chicken by himself. The sense of this action is that someone who eat meat should be conformable with killing it by himself. Sometime our life actions have consequences on other people or animal ones, often far from our homes. Doing directly by oneself the action which would be the consequences of what we always do on our everyday life should not be a bad thing. The one who would not be able to do so should change is way of life. So I slaughtered the chicken by myself without feeling any disrespect or any fear for the animal. Whatever, this chicken seemed to have a much better life than the one I eat in France but this approach confirmed me that I am an authentic carnivore and assume it
