It can be shaded upin various ways and is always effective and taking. Thisis a style of lettering that requires considerable brushwork in order to get the soft, delicate shades. Ifdoneentirely with a pen it requires very skillful handling, and«ven then is apt to look a little hard ; so it is best to gen-erally get the effect with a brush. Of course the first thing to do in preparing a headlineof this style is to make the curved lines, which can easilybe done with a pair of dividers by changing the position,but care must be taken not to get the curve, if com-pound, too abrupt, as a bad curve in the lettering marsth3 beauty, although the letters may be well keep in mmd the fact
