The 6-year old mission in Somalia recently welcomed the arrival of an advanced party of Sierra Leoneon troops who are undergoing final training in Kenya before a full battalion deploys to southern Somalia where they will operate alongside forces of the Kenya contingent. The arrival of Sierra Leone troops, in addition to those of Uganda, Burundi, Djibouti and Kenya already on the ground in Somalia, brings to five the number of African nations contributing soldiers to AMISOM alongside police contingents from Nigeria and Ghana as well as Sierra Leone and Uganda.
