Vallø Slot Valloe Castle Vallø Zealand Denmark Vallø Slot was built in the 16th century and is one of the finest example of Renaissance architecture in Denmark In 1737 the castle was taken over by a trust providing a home for unmarried daugthers of the nobility Some unmarried ladies still live at Vallø Slot As early as the 14th century the islet where the castle is situated was surrounded by a moat and a defence system The strange shape of the building with the two unequal towers is due to the Rosenkrantz sisters Mette and Birgitte who divided the estate into two parts The eatsern part was managed by Birgitte and the western by Mette Vallø Slot is one of Denmarks biggest farm estates with 4200 Ha and with many diffrent commercial activities
