He served forone term as a member of the city councilin Bloomington. but has never been a poli-tician in the sense of office seeking. ])re-ferring lo devote his time and energies tohis business affairs. He was born on the 21st ofOctober, 1823, in Charlottesville, four milesfrom the residence of Thomas grandfather owned the land on whichthe University of Virginia now stands. He isa son of Lawrence T. and Sally (Harmon)Catlett, both natives of Virginia, the latterborn in Stanton, in which city she was rearedand married. After their marriage thiscouple located in Charlottes\-ille. remainingthere until 1828. Mr. Catlett, Sr., was edu-cated for a lawyer, but not
