While some members of them carry considerable flesh and fatten at a sufiiciently good rate, they, in common with other dairy breeds, do not place the gain either in the place or in the condition to be most highly valuable. A yield of 6000 to 9000 pounds of milk per year is not at all unusual, while the percentage of fat ranges close to five. Comparing their yield with the Holstein, they give much less milk, but it tests more. In respect to their miUi- ing habits as in other points the Guernsey occupies a position between the Jersey and the Holstein, but rather more near the Jersey.
