It is not surprising- that strangerswho find the climate of an Eastern May atmidwinter should suppose that the climate ofJuly must necessarily be insufferable. Such,however, is far from being- the case. Thesummer climate of Los Ang-eles, and of thatsection of Southern California within aboutthirty miles of the coast, is delightful. Thisis due, partly, to the fact that our ocean cur-rent comes from the north, not from the south,as on the Atlantic coast, and also to the factthat the superheated air on the g-reat desertseast of Southern California rises with thesun, and lets in a cool current from the sea breeze sets in daily, at about elevenoclock.
