Shrub and fruit of Rubus ulmifolius subsp. sanctus, commonly called holy bramble, Blackberries (syn Rubus sanguineus and Rubus sanctus) Unripe blackberries (red) and ripe blackberries (black) are the fruit of this thorny bush. Blackberries are edible when ripe, and are widely cultivated for human consumption. They are also found growing wild near water sources in woodland areas. Photographed in Israel in August
