One of these, with one hundred rooms is set to open next year. In 2009, Spitbank Fort was bought by Clarenco for an undisclosed figure, thought to be in excess of £1 million. Work has now begun on Horse Sand Fort and No Manâ??s Land Fort in the middle of the Solent between The Isle of Wight and Portsmouth. After a sympathetic refurbishment maintaining the historical heritage, the 7,000sq ft. Spitbank Fort, which measures 162 feet across, was transformed into an extraordinary spa hotel. Visitors arrive by private boat, which is winched out of the water in James Bond style onto on the fort. The accommodation includes three dining rooms, a spacious courtyard, an open air hot pool, spa treatments, fit pit, sauna with sea views, a bar and stunning top deck. Exclusive use of this unique, private island hotel in the Solent costs £21,500. The eight gun placements have been made into luxury bedroom suites with sea views. The Admiral Suites have a super king sized bed, an elegant slate finished en suite bathroom, walk in shower and large television with seating area. Fishing, Kite flying, wine tasting and trips to Portsmouthâ??s historic dockyard and the Isle of Wight are a few of the activities provided to keep visitors entertained.
