Stock of good quality has been scarce," as the dry weather has been hard on outdoor crops and the intense heat has had its effect on house stock. Carnations are of poor quality, but there are enough of them, such as they are, to go the rounds. Eoses have held their own as well as anything in the houses and the quality of some of them is surpidsingly good. Killarney, White Killarney, Maryland and Sun- burst predominate at present. Beauties are of somewhat poor quality and are also scarce, but this is just as well, as the demand is light. Gladioli are fine and are really about the most satisfac- tory stock we are handling; the bulk of them are America and Augusta. Lilies are plentiful and find a fairly good market. Valley is good, with the sales rather light and the supply cor- respondingly light. Funeral work is about all that is doing at presnt. Various Notes. There is some doubt about the florists having an outing this year in a body, as nothing has been done so far in that respect, but they may get together in the last week of this month, as that is generally the time they go. The Ldvingston Seed Co. reports trade rather quiet in all lines. The Columbus Floral Co. is still cut- ting some carnations, but reports that business is quiet. The Indianola Florists are preparing to make a good display again at the state fair. The Munk Floral Co. has been busy repairing benches, etc., preparatory to replanting their stock. E. Metzmaier reports that business is quiet, but that there is plenty of hot work in store for him. Sherman Stephens has changed his firm name to S. F. Stephens & Son, and his son will be with him from now on. They report business quiet, with a lit- tle spurt of funeral work now and then. J. M. HIGHLAND, N. Y.
