An 19th century old engraving showing large crowds celebrating the Chairing of the winners of the Dunmow Flitch (side of bacon) at Dunmow, Essex, England in 1810 - The awarding of a flitch of bacon to married couples who can swear to have not regretted their marriage for a year and a day is an old tradition that was celebrated annually in various places in England. it survives in a revived form in Dunmow today where a jury cross-examines the nominated couples who compete for the award. The Dunmow flitch is referred to in Chaucer's work ("The Wife of Bath's Tale") & may have Pagan origins
