This consolidation is most likelyto OCCUr when both bones are broken at the same level, and when dis-placement of one or more of the fragments diminishes the normal inter-val between them. The mass of granulations developed about onefracture becomes continuous with that developed about the other, andossification follows. The presence of an interosseous membrane favorsthis result, for this tissue has the same tendency to ossify that is shown Fig. Fig. 28.
