Homotherium scimitar cats subduing their prey, artwork. This predator is an extinct member of the sabre-toothed cat family (Machairodontinae), which lived throughout Africa, Eurasia and North America between 3 million to 10,000 years ago. At one time its prey would have included early species of horse, as well as other ungulate mammals.
