Carved stone water spout in Patan Durbar Square Kathmandu Nepal
This is one of three water spouts in Manga Hiti in the world heritage site of Patan Durbar Square just south of Kathmandu city Steps lead down to this sunken pool next to the ancient royal palace Each spout is the head of a mythological crocodile or maksara eating a fish The locals use this for fresh water and to wash and it is always busy The stone carvings are possibly several hundred years old and this picture was taken in February 2005
