HYPERCHOLESTEROLEMIA, SYMBOL


Hyercholesterolemia, or high serum cholesterol (above mmol/l), is a primary or secondary metabolic disorder. Primary hypercholesterolemia is a genetic disease; the major form is familial xanthomatosis. The danger of hypercholesterolemia resides in the cardiovascular risk. Several types of hypercholesterolemia occur. The different types are identified by studying the subject’s serum using a technique called electrophoresis.
