Meteosat second generation-2 (MSG-2) weather satellite being prepared for launch. The satellite (blue and gold) has been placed on top of its launcher (white). Shock attenuators are being fitted to the satellite to protect it during launch. MSG-2 is the second of four MSG satellites. It was launched on top of an Ariane 5 rocket on 21 December 2005. It transmits detailed meteorological images to Earth every 15 minutes. It is a joint project by the European Space Agency (ESA) and the European organisation for the exploitation of meteorological satellites (EUMETSAT).
