At the Carpenter Tower of the Holy Trinity - St. Sergius Lavra in Sergiyev Posad, Russia

View of the architectural ensemble of the Holy Trinity St. Sergius Lavra from a corner of Carpenter Tower. The mighty monastery fortifications were built in stone in 1550s on money commissioned from Ivan the Terrible to replace the wooden ones for better protection of the top rank cloister. The mighty km-long walls protected by twelve towers, including the Carpenter tower on the picture, helped the monastery to withstand a 16-month Polish siege in 1608–1610.
