The wild herd of Konik horses at Wicken Fen near Cambridge
The wild herd of Konik horses at Wicken Fen near Cambridge this week. These rare KONIK foals will have to grow up fast to survive living with this wild herd. The seven cute young horses stayed close to their mums as the stallions were spotted fighting this week. The scene looked like something from the plains of America, but incredibly this rare sight of wild stallions was snapped in the English countryside on the wetlands of Wicken Fen - just 10 miles from the city of Cambridge. This behaviour has rarely been seen in Britain for 1000 years when the last herds of wild horses roamed these fields and it is something the babies will be doing themselves some day. "We have had seven foals born so far this year and another two or three are expected. They are all doing really well," said Carol Laidlaw, conservation grazing ranger at Wicken Fen.
