From JSTashville I returned to my home, where 1remained ten weeks; then received strict orders to goimmediately to Natchez, Miss. I was in the MarineHospital, and the fort was built up around us. Thiswas the fall after the siege of Yicksburg, and fordays and days we expected to be attacked, and hadeverything in readiness to be removed at a momentsnotice.
