Elk, Yellowstone National Park Wyoming USA

An Elk stag keeps a close eye on some of his hinds during the autumn rut as he waits for them to come into estrus and accept his advances. Holding onto a harem is always a challenge between keeping as many females in his group, preventing them straying to other groups, fighting off the advances of competing males and still being able to hold onto them long enough for them to come into season to be able to pass on his genes.
