The propor-tions would, therefore, stand as follows : To every 100 of foreignparentage there were about 143 of native; or about 59 native and 41of foreign parentage in every 100 deaths. This difference has beengradually diminishing. In 1892 there were two more deaths of foreignthan of native parentage. It will be seen that more than 41 per cent, of all the deaths fromdiseases of the heart were of persons over sixty N^ears of age, andnnder eighty. Diseases of the heart have acquired large importance as a cause ofdeath.
