Very many red fruits of a grabapple named "Butterball" (Malus x zumi) ripe on the branches after a rain in summer, Bavaria, Germany

The genus of ornamental apples (Malus) includes numerous species and varieties, the wild species of which originally came from Europe, Asia and America. Through their crossing, many new varieties have been created, so that today more than 500 ornamental apples are available. Growing as a shrub or tree, they grow between one and twelve meters high. The size of the fruit also varies. Although an ornamental, the little apples are edible.
