Aftermath of a north Pacific storm, S'Gang Gwaii Ilnagaay (Nistints), Anthony Island, Haida Gwaii, BC

The remote isolated island of S'Gang Gwaii Llanagaayi (Anthony Island) off the west coast of Moresby Island is the site of the most southern of the Haida settlements and a UNESCO Heritage Site. A massive storm hit Haida Gwaii in December 2018 with waves up to 12 M off Moresby Island. The winds were strong enough to uproot even huge 100 ft trees. The huge Sitka spruce and Western red cedar trees have shallow roots that don't penetrate deeply into the rocky ground and can blow over in strong winds, leaving large exposed root balls.
