Industrial size cookers in a kitchen at the Maginot Line site of Four à Chaux de Lembach, Alsace


This medium size artillery work (6 combat blocks, 2 entrances, crew: 580 men) lying in the Vosges fortified sector. Its name, meaning "Lime Kiln" was given to the fortress during peace time because of a nearby factory producing lime until 1939, but its military name was code A4. It has a unique inclined plane fitted with a rack for the transport of small trucks between the fort and the entrance of the amunition dump below.
