France. Region of Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur. Department of Hautes-Alpes. The Vallée de la Clarée. This valley is located in the Massif de Cerces, near to Mountain pass of Montgenèvre, the city of Briançon and the French-Italian border. The Clarée river runs through the valley. Its central village is Névache. The valley lies at between 1400 and 2000 meters, with meadows and larch forests. Many famous hiking trails run through the valley, which is connected to the Vallée Etroite: GR 57, Tour du Mont Thabor, Grande Traversée des Alpes. The Clarée river is used for water sports, such as canoeing and white-water rafting. In winter, the valley is visited by many cross-country skiers.
