Overlooking the Yampa Bench toward the confluence of the Green and Yampa Rivers.

Overlooking the Yampa Bench toward the confluence of the Green and Yampa Rivers. This wild canyonland was known by outlaws such as Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid and other members of The Wild Bunch. Cattle ranchers have occupied these lands since the 1800s, and earlier, the Utes and other Native Americans lived in and hunted through this area. Even earlier, the Fremont culture left behind petroglyphs, pictographs and other archaeological remnants from time they lived in these lands, between about 500 and about 1300 CE.
