Vientiane water festival street scenes at That Luang Stupa. Buddhist monks with bags of gifts and lots of money


Vientiane city capitol of Laos, also known as the Land of a Million Elephants and the city of the White Parasol and City of the Moon. In mid November the That Luang Water Festival takes place over three days at the That Luang Stupa the most sacred place in Laos where Lao people dress to impress to give Alms to the Buddhist Monks and to lay flower garlands at the memorial to King Xaysetthathirath who is credited with fighting off the Khmer to the South, the Vietnamese to the east and Siam to the west. Collecting alms, note the money in the central blue bag as in "bags of money"
