Like exuberant granulations inother localities, it is promptly cured by a few applications ofnitrate of silver (the stick or 10 per cent, solution). It should be confounded with Persistent Omphalomesentericus.(See page 146.) Ophthalmoblennorrhea Neonatorum (Gonorrheal orPurulent Ophthalmia). It mayalso be conveyed to the eyes of the infant post partum by means?of the fingers of the attendant or articles in use which have beensoiled by the purulent discharge. The disease begins two or three days after the gonorrhealinoculation with intense tumefaction of the lids, redness, swell-ing and thickening of the conjunctivae, lacrimation, and mucousand mucopurulent secretion.
