Bacterially hardened sand. Sample of sand that has been formed into rock by Bacillus pasteurii bacteria. These bacteria are able to precipitate calcite and solidify sand when given a calcium source and urea, through a process known as biological cementation. Because of this S. pasteurii has been proposed as an ecologically sound biological construction material.
