Culture of Trichosporon asahii fungi on an agar plate. Species of Trichosporon are yeast-like fungi found widely in nature, predominantly in soil and water in tropical and temperate areas. Several Trichosporon species colonise the human skin, respiratory and gastrointestinal tract. In general they are related to superficial infections, occasionally associated with invasive infections of immunocompromised patients.
