It sends up aflower stem from eight feet to sixteen feet high, on the top ofwhich is borne a greatcluster of large scarlet lily-like has the general habit of an Amarj Uis in foliage andgrowth, but is, of course, gigantic in proportions. Few arefound in cultivation, and those who have room for it canprocure nothing more rare and novel. In the Southern andFacifle States it is hardy, and can be grown in the openground. Yar^illa piai^t. A new pot plant, which is sure to take like wild-flre. Itbelongs to the Liatris family, and is a half-hardy its name implies, its blooms possess a strong, delicious andrefreshing vanilla fragrance. Foliage is also fragrant. It is asplendid flowering plant, sending up flower stems to theheight of two feet at the top of which is borne a great branching panicle of rosy-purple bloom that keeps perfect a longtime.
