The final sections of scaffolding have come down to reveal the splendid restored Town Hall in the middle of Birmingham 35 million is being spent restoring the 1834 building which was built by Joseph Aloysius Hansom in Roman Revival style architecture The town hall closed to the public ten years ago and has been shrouded in scaffolding and plastic sheeting for the past two years In the past many famous political figures including Joseph Chamberlain William Gladstone Neil Kinnock and Margaret Thatcher have made speeches in the grand surroundings as well as the Rolling Stones and Beatles in concert
