Seattle, Washington: Looking west over the new South Park Bridge. The double-leaf bascule bridge connects South Park's main business district to Seattle, near Boeing Field. The bridge opened to traffic on June 30, 2014, replacing the old bridge that was closed permanently in 2010 due to its deterioration. The bridge had already been in poor condition when it was damaged in the Nisqually earthquake in 2001. The new South Park Bridge retains most of its original structure, but with new lift span leaves.
