Vintage portrait photo circa 1902 of legendary US baseball pitcher Cy Young (Denton True Young) in the strip of the Boston Americans (later to become the Boston Red Sox). Young (1867 - 1955) pitched for five different Major League teams from 1890 to 1911 and his fastball earned him the nickname of "The Cyclone" - later abbreviated to "Cy". He established numerous professional records during his long career in which he played for the Cleveland Spiders (1890 - 1898), St Louis Perfectos (1899 - 1900), Boston Americans / Red Sox (1901 - 1908), Cleveland Naps (1909 - 1911) and Boston Rustlers (1911). Young was elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937 and the year after his death the Cy Young Award was created to honor the previous season's best pitcher. Photo by Bain News Service.
