We take great pains to secure and offer the best varieties for sale. Peas ma- ture earliest in a light, rich soil; for general crop, a rich deep loam, or inclining to clay is best. Plant early as the weather will per- mit in well-prepared soil, and cover two inches deep. The general crop can be delayed until later, but we have met with better success from sowing all the varieties comparatively early, depending for succession upon selecting sorts that follow each other in ripening. Rows from two to four feet apart ac- cording to size of variety ; but where space in the garden is small the dwarf varieties may be planted close as one foot. The crop should be gathered fast as it becomes fit for use. If even a few pods begin to ripen, young pods will not only cease to form, but those partly advanced will cease to enlarge. The wrinkled varieties are not hardy as the small smooth sorts, however, the sweetest and best flavored varieties. REMEMBER: Peas sent by mail add 15c per qt extra, ALASKA, or Earliest of All. The earliest blue pea, very uniform in growth. The dark green color of the pods makes it extremely desirable, as it can be carried long distances without loosing color, which quality, combined with its earliness and uniformity of ripening, makes it a most desirable ex- tra early pea for market gardeners; height, two feet.
