In 1865 the family physician cut the tendoachillis, the tendon of the tibialis anticus, and theplantar fascia, and applied a fixed club-foot shoe,which allowed no motion to the foot. Fig. 42 shows theshoe adapted to the foot (not the foot to the shoe),and Fig. 43 the restoration of the foot to its normalcondition, after the rubber muscles were attached.
