Heart monitoring. 93 year old patient undergoing an electrocardiography (ECG) examination. The electrodes attached to his chest are used to measure the electrical activity of his heart. An ECG examination can help diagnose a range of heart complaints, such as arrhythmia, coronary artery disease and cardiac asthma. The patient has previously suffered a transient ischaemic attack (TIA, or 'mini stroke'). Photographed at the Western General Hospital stroke unit, Edinburgh, UK.
