Light micrograph of the limit between the inner and outer stripes of the kidney medulla stained for alkaline phosphatase. This histochemical technique to detect alkaline phosphatase shows strong positivity in the brush border of the proximal convoluted tubules present in the kidney cortex and also in the outer stripe of the outer medulla. The distal tubes, renal corpuscles, and collecting ducts do not give a positive histochemical reaction.
