Doña Sofía Algorta y de Abaroa, a native of Lekeitio, married a nobleman from Arenys de Munt and ordered the planting of this tree from a cutting of the mythical Tree of Gernika. She did it out of nostalgia for her town and ordered to build a fence around the oak and add an inscription that still reads "GUERNICAKO ARBOLA Ceceila 1900".Arenys de Munt is a Spanish municipality in the province of Barcelona, Catalonia, located in the El Maresme region. It has a population of 8 654 inhabitants and an area of km². The urban center is located 4 kilometers from Arenys de Mar, 10 kilometers from Mataró and 45 km from Barcelona.
