Kirkland adjoins the town of Kendal, and now forms part of both the Parlia-mentary and municipal borough, and being without the jurisdiction of the Mayor,was formerly much resorted to by tradesmen not free of the Corporation. Only one specimen is at present known of this token, which is in the BodleianLibrary, Oxford, and bequeathed to it by Brown Willis, the antiquary, in 1760.—Nicolson and Burns History of Cumberland and Westmorland, i., p. 73.
