The 15 metre high stone carved Buddha statue takes centre stage at Buduruwagala, near Wellawaya in central Sri Lanka. Dating from the 10th century, this is the tallest standing Buddha statue in Sri Lanka. The three figures to the left of Buddha are believed to be Prince Sudhana, Avoalokitesvara (Mahayana Buddhist figure) and Tara (a consort). To the right of Buddha are three figures believed to be Vajrapani, Maitreya (the future Buddha) and finally either Vishnu or Sahampath Brahma,
