The old Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway depot was built in 1895. The structure rests along the Canadian National Railway tracks, a line connecting northwest Indiana and the Chicago area with Wisconsin, Minnesota and points throughout central and western Canada. Canadian National acquired the Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway in 2009. The colorful station once served passengers traveling the old EJ&E which ran around Chicago, linking Waukegan, Illinois on the north with Gary, Indiana to the south.
