The bodies of prisoners executed by the SS prior to the evacuation are laid out in a wooded area near the Ohrdruf concentration camp. Ohrdurf was a forced labour camp, a sub-camp of the Buchenwald complex. As the allies approched the SS evacuated the camp by forced marches and murdering those to weak to walk. An estimated 7000 people died there. The camp was liberated by the US Army on 4th April 1945
