Iridocorneal angle. Artwork of the iridocorneal angle, or filtration angle, (blue) of the front of the eye. The angle is formed by the meeting of the iris (left) and cornea, the transparent outer covering of the eye, (right). The sieve-like network of fibres, known as the pectinate ligament or trabecular meshwork, is responsible for draining the fluid from the front of the eye. If the iridocorneal angle becomes damaged, the fluid can build up and put pressure on the optic nerve, a condition known as glaucoma. Also seen is the sclera (cream, the white of the eye), the ciliary body (pink), which holds the lens in place, and a tendon of the rectus muscle (green), which attaches the eye to the skull.
