Rector. Anno salutis Humauae mdcccxxx. This was written and inscribed by Sandys distinguishedsuccessor, the well-known antiquarian, Edwin Sandy s^ theauthor of Consuetuclines Kancice. Of Sandys children, the most known was Edwin, aleader in the Parliamentary Army. He died after woundsreceived in the Battle of Worcester. His sonRichard was also a Colonel in the Parliamentary Army,and in 1647 became Governor of the Bermuda Company. The estate subsequently passed into the hands of hisgrandson Sir K. Sandys, and was entailed on his fourdaughters. In 1798 the whole property was purchased bya Mr. W. Wyborn, who sold it to Mr. Pett Han nan, who wassucceeded by his nephew Mr. C. Hannan. The Abbeygrounds became the property of Mr. Turner of Dover. Theyhave subsequently been reunited by the compiler of theseNotes.
