CHILD, Thomas Battersby, jun., 5th Bishop of the Salt Lake City 10thWard, Liberty Stake, was born May6, 1888, in Salt Lake City, Utah, theson of Thomas B. Child, sen., and 24 LATTER-DAY SAINT Elizabeth Livingston. He was raisedand educated in the 11th Ward, andlater attended the L. D. S. BusinessCollege in Salt Lake City. Beingbaptized May 4, 1896, by William , he was ordained successivelyto the offices of Deacon, Teacher,Priest, Elder, Seventy, High Priestand Bishop. After being ordained anElder he filled a mission to the North-ern States, 1909-1910, laboring inIowa and Illinois. After returningfrom that mission, he married Bertha. Rumel, April 12, 1911, in the SaltLake Temple. The children of thisunion are the following: Lucille,Francis (deceased), Robert and Child was an active Sundayschool worker in the 10th Ward,acting as second, later as first, andthen superintendent of the school. Hewas ordained a Seventy Feb. 2, 1914,by J. Golden Kimball and acted asa president of the 16th Quorum ofSeventy. After being ordained aHigh Priest March 18, 1923, by HughJ. Cannon, he acted as second coun-selor to Bishop Joseph Christensonuntil Feb. 17, 1923, when he was or-dained a Bishop by Apostle George , and set apart to presideover the 10th Ward, which positionhe still holds. Bishop Child is a con- tractor and builder, specializing inmason work and doing businessthroughout the entire west: The SouthHigh School, Union Building at theUnivers
