The photo shows the captured ground from the first two days of fighting by the 35th and 91st divisions, part of the 1st Army Corps, , during the Argonne-Meuse drive. This location is approximately three-quarters of a kilometer southwest of Epinonville, looking north towards Bois de Cummunal de Cierges.
