Ligulate corolla of Taraxacum. Accuracy Required in the Use of Terms.—The applicability to the tube and limb separately of many of the terms here applied to the entire corolla is apparent. It should be noted, however, that very detailed descriptions of these respective parts, as well as of the throat, with specification of any irregularities and marks, are often imperatively demanded. This is especially true of the florets of the Compositae, where such characters, although very slight, frequently serve for specific distinction. Special terms for forms resulting from the possession of appendages will be considered later. Terms Indicating Irregularity.—Terms indicating irregularity will next be considered, commencing with those ap
