Alfred Krupp (1812-1887). Historical image of the German engineer and manufacturer of steel and armaments Alfred Krupp. Krupp made parts for railways, steamships and cannon, becoming the largest manufacturer of steel in Europe and controlling most of the production of Germany's iron-ore and Spain's coal. He inherited an almost bankrupt business from his father in 1826 but was able to save the company through the quality of his products and some timely international trade agreements. The business expanded and Krupp displayed a flawless 2 tonne steel ingot at the British Great Exhibition of 1851. He is known for ruling his workforce benevolently but strictly. Published circa 1880-1887.
